Our clients are act­ing on a glob­al scale. It is there­fore vi­tal for them to re­ceive ex­cel­lent le­gal ad­vice tak­ing in­to con­sid­er­a­tion the le­gal and com­mer­cial pe­cu­liar­i­ties of for­eign ju­ris­dic­tions which have an im­pact on their busi­ness op­er­a­tions.

Be­cause of this, the In­ter­na­tion­al Law prac­tice has been an in­te­gral part of Thümmel, Schütze & Part­ner’s work pro­file since the firm’s es­tab­lish­ment. The firm ad­vis­es in all le­gal as­pects of cross-bor­der com­mer­cial ac­tiv­i­ties. Lawyers in the firm are rou­tine­ly in­volved in de­vis­ing and im­ple­ment­ing ef­fec­tive trans­ac­tion struc­tures for ex­port/im­port and re­lat­ed in­vest­ments, struc­tur­ing in­ter­na­tion­al dis­tri­bu­tion sys­tems or in­cor­po­ra­tion of com­pa­nies abroad, struc­tur­ing in­ter­na­tion­al li­cence agree­ments and coun­selling clients on how to pro­tect their busi­ness­es from po­ten­tial li­a­bil­i­ty risks in for­eign mar­kets.

A core com­po­nent of our in­ter­na­tion­al law prac­tice is the cross-bor­der pros­e­cu­tion of claims. We have sub­stan­tial, long-term ex­pe­ri­ence of deal­ing with in­ter­na­tion­al and Eu­ro­pean pro­ce­du­ral law in the in­ter­est of our clients, en­forc­ing our clients’ civ­il law claims to­wards for­eign debtors and fend­ing off in­ter­na­tion­al dis­putes, in­clud­ing the le­gal is­sues aris­ing from them. We have an in­ti­mate knowl­edge of the op­tions avail­able to mit­i­gate the risks aris­ing from civ­il pro­ce­dures car­ried out in for­eign fo­rums, in par­tic­u­lar of US-Amer­i­can law­suits.

We draw on our own knowl­edge and ex­pe­ri­ence or that of our of­fices in Sin­ga­pore and Brus­sels to sup­port our clients in the area of in­ter­na­tion­al law. If re­quired, we tap in­to the ex­per­tise of lead­ing law firms and pro­fes­sion­als based abroad, with whom we nur­ture good re­la­tions. We are mem­bers of the world­wide lawyer net­work Ter­raLex. Apart from our ex­per­tise con­cern­ing oth­er Eu­ro­pean coun­tries, we dis­pose of a pro­found ex­per­tise with re­gard to South and South­east Asian coun­tries and the USA. Our know-how is re­flect­ed in nu­mer­ous pub­li­ca­tions in­clud­ing ar­ti­cles and ref­er­ence books, in par­tic­u­lar re­lat­ing to in­ter­na­tion­al pro­ce­du­ral law, and reg­u­lar pre­sen­ta­tions and lec­tures by our lawyers.
