Singapore

In 1982, Thümmel Schütze became the first German law firm to receive a foreign law firm licence in Singapore, which prepared the ground for the launch of its own office in 1984. Since 15th November 2005, all advice given by the firm in Singapore has been rendered by Thümmel, Schütze & Partners LLP, which is registered as an independent entity. Lawyers in the Singapore office focus on important business and legal issues related to German and Southeast Asian company law, international trade law, international banking law, labour law in Germany and Southeast Asia, as well as representation in court and arbitration proceedings in all matters relating to Southeast Asia, Germany and the European Union. Legal advice to clients is frequently related to the following areas:

  • The incorporation of subsidiaries, registration of branches and representative offices
  • Contracts (mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other corporate agreements, distributorship and agency agreements, employment, technology transfer and licence agreements, general conditions)
  • Intellectual property (registration of patents and marks, unfair competition, computer and media)
  • The representation in and counselling during litigation and arbitration before state courts and arbitral tribunals

Success in business in Asia is mainly based on mutual trust and confidence and, therefore, long-established personal relationships. Over the last 25 years, Thümmel Schütze has worked to build relationships with government bodies, authorities, economic organisations and renowned local law firms in all commercial centres in Asia. In 1999, the service company TSP Corporate Services Pte Ltd was established. It renders supplementary services in the area of corporate secretarial matters and acts as trustee, particularly in cases requiring the direct participation of a local partner.
