Roderich C. Thümmel studied at the Universities of Tübingen and Munich and at the Harvard Law School (LL.M. ‘84’). In addition to his German licence, he has also been admitted as an attorney at law in New York. He is an honorary professor at the University of Tübingen for international commercial law and arbitral jurisdiction.

Roderich C. Thümmel specialises in advising on matters of corporate law, especially family-owned enterprises, compliance and avoidance of liability for executive managers, and supervisory boards. Further cores of his practice are insurance law, and D&O insurance in particular. He regularly represents executive managers and supervisory boards in liability proceedings. Additionally, he advises D&O insurers as monitoring or coverage counsel.

Another focal point of his practice is arbitral jurisdiction. He has served as an arbitrator in more than 100 national and international arbitration proceedings. These mainly concern post-M&A proceedings, corporate litigations (especially relating to joint venture relations), matters of (international) distribution, energy law, and other complex contractual agreements.

Roderich C. Thümmel is a member of various supervisory and advisory boards, especially those of family-owned enterprises. He acts as honorary consul for the Republic of Iceland in Baden-Württemberg, Rheinland-Pfalz, and Saarland.
