TSP at the Eastern Europe Economy Day in Berlin on 20 November 2014

News from 08.12.14

Just like last year, the law firm had a booth representing it at the Eastern Europe Economy Day of the Osteuropa Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft e.V., (the Eastern European Association of the German Economy) as well as a team consisting of three Russian-speaking lawyers. The association offers enterprises from Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia a platform for exchanging ideas about topics in economics, and is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year.

This year’s high-profile guest participants included: Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Georgia’s Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development; Valery Pyatnitsky, Ukraine’s incumbent Minister of Economy; and Octavian Calmic, Moldavia’s Vice Minister of Economy. At the beginning of the session, Günter Verheugen, Vice President and Commissioner (retd.) of the European Commission, emphasized among other things the advantages of prospective EU free-trade areas held out by the Association Agreement.

As expected, the discussion was especially lively concerning land reform in Ukraine. Valery Pyatnitsky and Prof. Gennady Chizhikov, President of the Ukraine Chamber of Industry and Commerce, answered questions concerning—among other things—the present Ukrainian situation as well as the reforms necessary in connection with the Association Agreement. The panels on agricultural and food economy and on green economy also offered issues for discussion.
